Naaaaaaaaaaaaaants ingonyama bagithi, Baba.

This wailing tune can be recognized all over the world, even though no one actually knows what its saying (it talks about a lion and a leopard by the way). “The Lion King” was undoubtably my favorite childhood movie and I was ecstatic to find out it was coming to the Ohio Theatre.

The Tony award winning, Broadway hit show allowed the famous movie to be brought to life before the audiences eyes. Simba, Scar, Nala, Mufasa, Timon, Pumba and all of the other well-known and beloved characters were able to grace the stage in a way like never before. But not as true lions, meerkats, and warthogs. Instead they were elaborately designed, puppet-like costumes that were able to move and function as true animals. There were full-sized rhinos, giraffes, lions, gazelles, and every other animal you would have seen in the movie.

Not only were the costumes incredible, but also the multitude of changing sets, music, and unbelievable acting made the show one of the best Broadway productions I have ever seen (yes, I think it was better than “Wicked”).

Everything about this show lived up to the hype and expectations that had so many people lining up and hunting down tickets for every show across the nation.
